Its been discussed here are few times, cracks at the top of the A pillar on Series 2. And now I know why. My red coupe is starting to exhibit this cracking and I set out to solve this on the blue coupe. I went at it with a grinder to clean the area for welding, it was soft and it became clear, this was a lead joint. So I burned it out with a torch. This exposed a poor factory weld, shown here, that only only partially covered the seam. The other side was almost as bad. Here are some picts. Looks like the factory did one blob weld, bashed in the area in with a hammer and leaded the area to finish it.
Here is a poor and incomplete factory weld that was hidden under lead.
Here is the same joint welded as it should have been. Took about 5 seconds to weld it right. It will be finished with short strand fiber re-inforced polyester filler and will never crack again
With all the glass removed the green house shimmies easily if bonked on the side...after the welding, it still shimmied... but noticeably less.

Not to be picky but the A pillar is at the windshield, B pillar is behind the driver's/passenger window (not there on our "pillarless" Coupes, and the C pillar is at the back window. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm about to get a paint job on my car, so it might behoove me to check this out. Many thanks!

yes, get behoov'ing...weld'er up or it will crack. Almost every series 2 I've seen, sedan or coup has these cracks.
I think I got it right...the cracks and items pictured are at the top of the A pillar.
I'm sorry; I was looking at the pics thinking I was seeing the back of the car not the front. Glad you pointed that out. I would hate to grind the wrong end of the car!
It is well known that Jaguar had major quality problems in the 70s and here is a typical example. There are no doubt not as many spot welds present as there should be too. Perhaps better not mention the block crackin between the bores on the long stud engines, and various other "issues" !!
