More:

Somewhere before 2001, my brain began to entertain the thought of owning a Jaguar!!! A lawyer I worked with at the time had an XJS V12 power. Many issues, and bit raggedy...

Then I saw a startling Brown and "gold" sedan at al local classic at a sales room. The owner's primrose V12 E in the window as eye candy!!!

Saw the brown one drive away. Rats, I snoozed and lost...

But, another day, it was back! Went home and got dear departed. Coached her carefully on negotiation and the stone face or disinterest look.. Looked it over, took it for a spin. .Alas, coaching lost. I figure it coat me an additional 500!!! Got it for 4250.

So from 2001 to the present a clear winner in longevity at our place. never had I kept a car anywhere near that long..

If not my favorite, durn close to it. My dear departed called it herJaguar... Altough German born and raised, enthralled by all tings English...

Carl.

Carl,

funny you mention that, I have been watching videos of WW2 in youtube. Hamburg, Berlin, Nuremberg. A time before my time.
the destruction was sad, yet the people do not look "destroyed". Where did they hide during this bombing?

Yes, Mark Felton Productions has some interesting stuff, post-war Germany, secret weapon development, V1 & V2 rockets etc.
Especially the Krupp manufactured Heavy Gustav 31 inch calibre gun that could hurl a 7 ton projectile 23 miles!
Destined to shell England from the French coast, it never made it there fortunately.
Talk about dodging a bullet!

Not to mention, they have no agenda, they're predictable and they're never jealous. If something is wrong it will be something specific. It isn't because the car didn't get an ice cream cone when it was 2 or you didn't drool sufficiently over that last cosmetic modification of questionable taste or you didn't drive it yesterday. Whatever it is can be probably fixed with wrenches and sockets. If the same thing happened before and you fixed it, then probably the same procedure will fix it this time.

My fleet take all the praise I lavish on them along derogatory terms of endearment and they never pout because I didn't drive this one today. I talk to all of them constantly while I'm working on them, or cleaning/polishing/servicing, or when driving them hard or easy, taking them through curves or ruts. Now that they're all sorted, I'm not afraid to drive any of them from here to Kentucky if I ever have reason to go to Kentucky.

Jose:

Some folks resorted to the "Kellar" Aka cellar. At times OK, others, horribly not!!! and there were bomb shelters, some under ground and some heavily built, above. those usually safe.

Ellen told me she was at her aunt and uncle's place in Mannheim. The sirens sounded.. Aunt wanted to get in the Keller. ".No, we go tot he shelter!!!" The did. when the all clear was sounded, they came home?? No home, just a huge smoking crater... : With little more than a go bag and clothes on their backs, walked to Worms, Gathered her mom and off to a nearby town, cousins house in the country.. Waited out the war there. I forgot the name of it..

Tles of our occupation and the first entry of American troops followed...

Carl , it was a bad war!
but as asked ,(who holds the all time worlds record for a kill to time ratio?)
150,000 people in less than 5 seconds, by USA , Hiroshima august 1945, ATOM BOMB, and not really big by todays standards!
Question ? will it repeat ar sometime ? aint we proud?

ALL war is bad , but the up side is everybody makes money!

Jaguar, there have been so many.

BUT

Since this is the Series section, stay on topic Grant.

The S2 Daimler Sov, 4.2ltr I6, followed us home when we were out driving the XJS, as he wanted someone to maintain his car, ME.

Went over it, not interested in owning the thing at all. Dropped liner, head gasket gone, clearly been overheated.

Wife AKA The Minister for Everything, loved it, White with Blue interior, and a 5cyl too boot. She was a slow learner, not now though.

She had a Merc 280SE snotter. He loved the Benz, so a swap took place.

Engine out, stepped liners, etc, trans refreshed (overheated the engine dont forget), all back inside 2 months, and into daily use.

She came home at a later date with a S2 V12, OOPS, "where is the Daimler????", at her brothers place, "his mate wants out of this for peanuts". 1976 XJ12, White, Black Vinyl roof, Red interior. Gave him peanuts, in a paper bag, took the Jag. 12 months later, freshened up, mainly catch up service items, nothing major at all. Now done 640K Kms++ and still wants to run. Told you is NO slow learner now.

Daughter turns up one day, all of 17, with a 1977 XJ6, NOT RUNNING. Cons Dad into rebuilding the engine, HAHA, she learnt all about engine building in a hurry. Followed quickly by rear cradle rebuild, and then the front cradle rebuild, and some wiring along the way.

Thats enough, there were others, but same thing basically.

The S2 is an AWESOME car when set up as designed. Grace, Space, Pace.

If not for my skeleton issues, I would still be driving that Daimler, but we humans do dumb shiiit, and the body pays later.

I freely admit my bias but I think the Series 2 is the most Beautiful of all the Jags ever built!
Husband dragged home a derelict Series 3 one day, wouldn't pass emissions so owners gave it to him for scrap price. He bought me a Jag so he thought it only fair he buy himself one too.

It didn't look bad for a Series 3, but I've always thought they all look like their pants were hiked up to go through puddles or something. (Mine had been lowered about 2 inches but still)

I made him park it out behind the trees away from sight of polite company where he's letting it sink into the ground farther with each irrigation.

You mean he's letting it sinking into the ground?

It was already heavily infested with rust before he dragged it here. Has no front glass. Small wild creatures have made it home for several years.

However, if you want pictures, I'll get you some. Just a minute.....

Here ya go.

See, Grant, that's a problem here because husband Refuses to part with this thing! I agree it's downright Sinful to let it dissolve into a pile of rust like this but he won't work on it and won't let someone else have it.

There's an acre of ground here, and it's a constant battle to keep him from turning it into another impromptu wrecking yard, which would get the County's unwanted attention in about 3 weeks.

1. I get your hubby's instincts... On return from army service I seriously considered an old dream. own a junkyard!!! A possibility was in Deming New Mexico. Always liked New Mexico!! but, the fact that I had a wife and child to support trumped that. Off to a 50 year career in insurance claims.. Oddly, auto claims bored me..

2. Check You Tube. North Carolina based Johnathan Winans operates A-1 tow service. Yard full f critters.. and an amazingly talented guy. creates running cars from rusty derelicts or even parts of rusty derelicts
