Default Will the real dipstick please stand up

The trans dipstick on my new '87 XJ6 says to use Dexron on the very bottom. Everything I've read says to use type F. Do all the trans dipsticks say Dexron or could I have a replacement dipstick or possibly even a transmission swap?

Holy Moly! I think I just answered my own question. Peering into the dark recessed behind the engine I could see an adaptor plate between the engine and trans embossed with "Johns Xmissions, Dallas, Texas." Pretty sure I do have a transmission swap on my hands here. I looked them up and they swap 350s and GM transmissions into old Jags. This could have been disastrous if I had blindly added type F instead of Dexron. I'm going to call them up and see if they can tell me just what trans I have.

yes, John's Cars is famous for their transmission swaps into XJ-6. Use Dextron.
