Window regulator roller replacement part

Window regulator roller replacement part
Hi everyone:
Ran into a problem on my wife's 71 xj6. I went to put the window up, it went half way up and dropped. The motor was fine, and the regulator arm moved perfectly. So I took the door panel apart (thanks to copies of the original parts books), and there was a perfect view of the problem. The roller, which is plastic/nylon, wheel was missing about 1/3 of the outer part, but the rivet part was fine and attached to the regulator arm.
I contacted several Jaguar places, and there was no replacement, only used regulator arms. I tried the usual auto parts stores, nothing that would fit. So, I tried cabinet and desk drawer supplies at home and hardware stores, complete bust.
Well......... I came across a bag of parts in the "junk drawer", and found a license plate bracket nut and bolt kit. In it was a backing nut made of stainless that had a flat outer part surrounded by a plastic/nylon ring. Would it fit?
Perfectly!!!!!!
Had our body shop guy (Don's Auto Body in Murphysboro, IL), grind out the rivet and put the new one (use the short bolt). Works and fits flawlessly!
Here is a side by side comparison, and a photo of the license plate kit (the photo came from the O'Reilly's website).

The "think it out' thing ! Jaguar didn't make these as unique to the marque. Nor did they outsource making a lot of stuff that was unique to the mark.
They shopped sources. Off the shelf products abound.
A couple of decades ago, the manual window crank in my 79 IHC Scout II failed. I opened the door and found the teeth on one gear shucked like a corn cob!!
My son had some extra doors from converting a 57 Ford four door wagon to a tudor. I opened one and fund the window regulator system very similar. Ground off some rivets on the Ford gear housing. Same on the IHC housing. Swapped and secured with screws. Cleaned and lubed the Ford unit first.
Never worked better !!
