Windscreen water gully repair
Evening,
The gully beneath the chrome grill in the centre of the windscreen, it leads to the interior fan. Mine has holes in it and rust. Is there an accepted method to repair this?
i've prepaired a patch panel to weld in through the hole where the grill goes but frankly i consider my welding skills to be novice at best. To help matters the dash is removed already but there is still limited access without a serious attack with an angle grinder and more welding than i care for.
I'm considering rust treating and painting what is there and fibre glassing over the metal, which i am novice at but given the access, i think i can do a better job. I think i can build a little fibreglass bucket in there, including within the drain tube to catch water and limit it wicking underneath the fibres. thoughts?

It is in an awkward spot and, if you decide to use fiberglass, you're going to be the only one who would know so I don't see a problem. I would clean the rusted areas as well as possible and treat with a rust killer such as Ospho before laying the glass.
This plenum chamber is not structural, and in modern cars these things are normally plastic anyway ! However I would clear away all rusted steel, before "plasticising" the chamber. I actually did this on a Mark 2 shell when I rebuilt a Mark 2 in the 80s.
