Default wiring

hi, my grandfather has an 1985 xj12, and this car has some issue mainly with the wiring. The car was in a flood then taken to a mechanic, who did some wiring, removed stuff, and clipped wires. COuld someone please post some pics of and underhhod wiring harness and fuse box. Also does anyone know where i can get wiring scematics or a completely new wiring harness. Thanks

Is this a 4 door XJ12 or a 2 door XJS? If it's the former, you will need to check in Europe or Canada. The Series 3 XJ12 was never imported into the US market. You will find a few around, but they are rare.

I suggest you look on the internet for the Series 3 XJ Workshop Manual - it's coloured in dark green, about 1.5" thick. It has all the wiring diagrams. The 1985 V12 cars were fuel-injected using the Bosch D-Jetronic system built under licence by Lucas Ltd of the UK. This was the last Jaguar with a paper-based manual, and there are still a few around. There is also a parts manual showing component layout including the looms. It's in the same green colour and again, about 1.5" thick. These two books are essential to have if you want to do serious maintenance or rebuild activities.

There are numerous wiring looms on the car, but for the engine, there will be looms to connect up the fuel injection. The ECU, by the way, is in the boot.

Apart from this, there are two looms that pass down each side of t he engine compartment, then disappear into a box section - these are for the front lights & indicators. Going on memory of my XJ6 Series 3, there are two fuse boxes in the engine compartment where these looms start. No looms cross the bulkhead, they plus into sockets on the bulkhead and another loom takes over the other side.

Which country are you located ?
