Default Xj12 pre HE fuel pressure regulators

Has anyone used One FPR instead of 2 ? Of course both fuel rails would be connected to one another, and using only the B bank FPR to return fuel to tank. I assume they used 2 for redundancy.

G’day Jeff,

I have a 1995 XJ12 and it only has one FPR on the return end of the fuel rail. The fuel rail is two metal rails, which hold six injectors each, joined by two rubber crossover hoses.

There are no hoses between the injectors and the fuel rail, the injectors just plug into sockets in the fuel rail.

Cheers and HTH,
Jeff.

Jeff,

I do remember waaaay back, at the end of the PreHE, they used the HE square rail, and obviously 1 FPR.

There was talk??, by complaint, as there was reports of that round rube rail splitting, to retro that square rail to PreHE engines, but I never saw that, and it may have just been talk.

I see no reason why not with the round rail/s, suitably joined.

Off topic, slightly, but very early HE engines had a round rail for each bank linked across the banks by two flexible tubes (NOT the same as the earlyy pre HE V12s with the twin rails). Unbelievably, the FPR was screwed to the back of the throttle capstan! I have actually seen and worked on such a one. This was subject to a factory recall (I have a feeling because the flexible cross-tubes could leak) whereby the "normal" square HE rail was fitted and the FPR moved to its "normal" location on the end of the B bank intake manifold.

Thanks. Yeah it will be one hose across the 2 rails, connecting them, (they already kinda are by the fuel supply line) and off that hose a Tee to the B bank FPR out into the return fuel line to tank.
that cross fuel line hose could be an issue and is in the way but it can be routed many different ways.

must have been a redundancy thing. The idea is that if one goes bad you can at least limp home.. unless one is less effective, less quicker to respond to fuel pressure variations… not sure

it’s easier I think to simply use one FPR and tweak everything else. Then when it’s all good I could replace the 2 FPR set up for original purposes..
