Default XJ2 S2 distributor

Hi, looking for information on a lucas 45d6 distributor total advance include vacuum, 4.2 ltr low comp/ i know all the general ignition timing - static - central & vacuum but not total @ what rpm…info is generally 8 Btdc - 20deg @ 1700 rpm, any links or info helpful… thanks

If you disassemble the distributor to see the weights, there is a number stamped on the weight, that is the total mechanical advance. There can be different weights for different markets.

i know the central weight advance is 13Deg and vacuum is 14Deg, what i'm trying to find out is at what rpm is total advance including static deg?

From what I can determine, that is dependent on the springs. You would need to find a Lucas handbook that lists the spec number that is stamped on the distributor and see what it says. For example, in the earlier 22D6 distributors used on E Types apparently there are 338 possible combinations! Unfortunately I don't have a Lucas book that lists any of that data.

As a very rough rule of thumb, I would expect the total advance to be all in by 3000-3500 rpm.

1984 XJ6 S3 4.2 low compression

Overhauled Distributor 1984 XJ6 Calif LU 41912A

Adjust Air gap on Pickup to: .008 to .014 inches with non-metallic feeler gauge

Centrifugal advance Max (2 x 10* = 20*) + 17* = 37* at crank shaft

Vacuum advance Starts @ “Hg Max Adv (Dist. Degrees) @ “Hg.) initial Timing

#1703 4”8”8* .....4” 8* 8” (8* at distributor, 16* at crankshaft)

#1504 4”9”6* .....4” 6* 9” (6* at distributor, 12* at crankshaft)

Initial Timing (17*) = 17* @ 800 RPM (TB vac capped off)

WOT (17*+ 2x10*) = 37* @ 4600 RPM

Cruise (17*+ 2x8*) = 33* @ 3000 RPM (Timing Set point) (no Vac Advance at this RPM under cruise)
