Default xj6 4.2 dizzy clamp problem?

helo.
it might sound silly but iam having proablems fitting the clamp to my distbuter and to the engine block.
if you are quite familier with these engines and the distributer please can you take a few mins to have a look at my photos i will add to this post and please give me your opinion.
the clamp on the dizzy dose not fit the engine block so i ordered another clamp from a local jag breaker and its the same as the one i allready have and still wont fit.
any idear if there are other different clamps for a s2 4.2 ?

Clearly you have the wrong clamp !

The Lucas distributor was used by many other cars, so if you have purchased a used one it must have come off another car. I certainly don't remember my clamp having a slot for the securing bolt, it was just a round hole.
As far as I'm aware, Jaguar never altered this fitting from 1948-1986 on the XK engine, although the distributors changed over the years.

Doug will no doubt know more...........

There are a couple different clamp types plus, as I suspected, a base plate between the clamp and the engine block.

Take a peek....

The fellow who took these pics mentions '85-'87 cars versus earlier cars. I think that shoud be mid '83-'87 versus earlier but I can't swear to it
