The sky's the limit on entertainment systems.

It's a rare Ser III that doesn't have the Delanair MkII climate control. It would be hard to improve upon it if it's working correctly. A more modern compressor is one possibility for improvement but that's all I can think of.

Anti-lock brakes were intalled on the very last Ser IIIs in the early 90s. You'd need to find a donor car (not easy) and get every part for a complete installation. Engineering an ABS system from scratch isn't a reasonable proposition, IMHO.

Some guys have swapped the entire drivetrain and rear suspension from an XJ40 into a Ser III. Apparently it's relatively easy...as drivetrain swaps go. Not a direct bot-in by any means, but doable.

Cheers

What was the purpose of that?

To get a lighter, more powerful, more efficient engine and transmission and, as far as the rear suspension goes, to get outboard disc brakes.

Oh, right. But aside from servicing the inboard brakes would be better wouldn't they?

The sole advantange to the inboard brakes is reduced unsprung weight...which surely plays a part in the famous Jaguar ride quality and feel on the road.

Inboard brakes were all the rage back in the day and I'll wager that suspension designers nowdays, if given a clean sheet of paper and no restrictions from the bean counters, would still be favoring them today.

I think the Jaguar inboard-brake IRS is nothing less than a marvel but it must've been terribly expensive to manufacture....and we all know that repairs are labor intensive.

So....Jaguar went to a more ordinary suspension arrangment and, let's face it, you don't hear any complaints about the way the cars ride and handle. Time moves on, I guess.

Cheers
