Default xj6 indicator dash lights not working

I have a series 3 xj6. The bulbs are fine. Could it be the relay not working properly? The outside indicators are working fine. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Probably the voltage regulator in the dash.

I would try rotating the dimmer from one end to the other around 15 times, and see if that causes any change.

Hi Oliver343,

There is a light globe in each of the rev counter and speedo to illuminate the left and right indicators telltales.

Check that these haven't both blown.

Twist speedo / rev counter 1/4 turn. Remove unit and locate relevant wire running into back of it.

Globe on end of wire.

Cheers,

Nigel

PS Mine are very dim even with new globes.

Most likely the flasher relay, yes, although there are 2 diodes in the circuit as well that can fail....but both failing at once just doesn't seem likely at all.

The voltage regulator previously mentioned is not used on the Series III cars.

Hi Doug,
So it could be the relay? I get the ticking noise when I push the flasher lever up and down but no lights on the dials. Where are the diodes located? Could be really hard to get to if there behind the dash. Thanks for your help. I guess I'll have to get a new relay and try that.

Cheers

Odd fault?

As I read the posts, the left turn and right turn signals on the exterior of the car, front and rear not only light up, but flash. If all or any part of that compound sentence is false, then tis odd.

O'wise, if the exterior turn signals light up, but do flash, I'm with Doug.

Flasher relay. A device that makes and breaks the circuit mechanicly using a bimetal or electronically.
