Default XJ6 S3 1987 Antenna Lubrication

Hello!

Was wondering what the best practice would be to keep the antenna lubricated and clean???

Can you do this externally of would i have to open up the mechanism??

Thank you!

All I have ever done on any Jag with an antenna is to spray some silicone spray on a rag, extend the antenna, and wipe UPWARDS ONLY.

That way the dirt and grime is NOT forced into the gap between the 2 tubes, and jam the works.

Inside the motors, NAH.

Hi Chrisleg,

I have always used 'Singer' light machine oil (made for Singer sewing machines originally) in the same manner as Grant.

I also have made it a habit to do this as a periodic maintenance item. ie before the antenna mast starts to stick.

Obviously more often in winter when the weather is worse.

I personally find it easier to lubricate / clean if someone sits in the drivers seat and switches the radio on / off and I can work the mast as it extends and withdraws.

Cheers,

Nigel
