Default XJ6 S3 Fuel Changeover Valve Question

I ordered a replacement fuel changeover valve from Paul's Jaguar in Florida, and it has just arrived. My question is this: both wires are black exiting the solenoid. How do I know which is positive and which is negative? I tested it with my meter and neither are grounded to the exterior of the solenoid.

Does polarity matter here?

Thanks!

Jeff

I have a recollection of experimenting with this and deciding that polarity didn't matter. It's just a simple solenoid.

At worse it'll operate opposite of intended and the wires can be reversed.

If I'm remembering incorrectly someone will chime in.

Cheers

The valves are handed, LH and RH. On one side the solenoid opens the valve and on the other is shuts it. All you need is power to the solenoid to work the valve, no polarity issue.

Thanks guys. I just replaced it and it's working like new. As I pulled the old valve out I noticed a large oak leaf all curled up and plugging the feed from the right tank. Turns out I probably didn't need the valve after all.

Oh well. I had already installed the new one at this time, so I'll just leave it.

Makes for an expensive leaf though!
