Default XJ6 Series 1 Tyres

Hi everyone.
I need to buy a new set of tyres but since the original E 70 VR15 are no longer available, which modern alternatives do I have? I don't want to fit smaller tyres on the wheels, and I wonder if in order to keep the tyre size I need to get bigger wheels.
Any help's much appreciated.

What's your budget?

https://www.universaltire.com/dunlop...blackwall.html

ER/70R15 Dunlop SP Sport | Longstone Tyres

If those are too rich for your blood then you still have quite a few choices in size 205/70x15...which is virtually the same.

Where are your located? What characteristics are you looking for in a tire?

Cheers
DD

Too expensive indeed. Looking for something cheaper that won't compromise looks and handling. I'll look into the suggested tyre sizes. Thank you!

We have Yokohama Avid Touring "S" tires 205/70/15 and KYB shocks, that combo works really well for us. Tires provide a comfortable ride, good predictable traction, and are $73!

Side bar;

Is "donkey's knob" synonomous with "bee's knees" ?

I delight in "word play"

My Jeep likes the Yokohama Avid's. It's use does not dictate knobby "off road" tires.

My Jaguar likes it's "T" rated 215 x 70 x 15 B.F Goodrich rubber on 7" XJS sourced lattice wheels. Will I drive at 122 MPH for extended periods ? Easy question, next....

The latter look right, and ride well and corner well.

However, I'm aware of some that must deal with MOT. So far, our nanny state hasn't gotten that idea???

Donkeys knob = job as in just the job. Sorry showing my English background. As for the nanny state don't worry it will come.

Hi ,

Now i need 4 new tyres......

Don't like classic Dunlop or Michelin for prices and for older designs. .....

i woul'd pay for modern premium brand and good tyres but with a new tread design/technology

Can you help me ? i do change size and use 215/65 15 instead of original 205/70 15 ???

original wheels here.

thank'you!

Yes Carl, that brings the NZ days back. I knew about "donkeys knobs " long before "Bees Knees".

I run Sailun 205-70R15 96H CVR light truck tyres along with Boge 30-D85-A Rear shocks. The tyres and shocks are nearly 4 years old and still doing what they did new.(and this is a daily driver and track day car)

Tyres $122 each and shocks $363 for the four rears + postage.

Bees knees, donkeys knob or ducks nuts............ how ever you want to say it.

The shocks are available off the shelf at Jagdaim in Melbourne(AU).

Dear thank'you for photos ! i love this car!!!!

i have SAME shocks here same wheels too !

i like tyres also , have a quite new design , i don't like Dunlop/michelin coming from 60's.....

so ,"some" questions now:

1) what's shock have in front side?
2) tyres are the same front and rear ? (in photos appear more sized in rear)
3) chassis level from the ground is same that original 70's (in photo car appear lower)
4) Never evaluated 215/65/15 with your wheels, in any case what you think about this?
5) why you have m+s in your tires , for daily use during winter? i would like a more soft full summer tyres ........what you think about this?

Ok end for now, sorry for much questions , i'm in sure bay .....and found in you all my answers ......same car same shock same wheels....
analyzed problems .....and resolved....i need your experience.

i never go track.....only daily use and Jaguar italian meeting , however looking for a nice use with comfort/safe/perfomances coming from 2019 tires....

THANK ' YOU!

Federico

1. No idea what front shocks are, they work so they stay until they don't.
2.yes, in the pics fronts are the old Michelin, the Sailuns performed perfect on the fromt too. Rain pics have the Sailuns all round. (pics wit hub caps on have Sailuns all round)
3.Everything in the geometry is standard, track pictures won't show this.
4. I had 225/60's when I got it, no good in my opinion. rubbed a lot.
5. Not sure what you mean by M+S but my tyres do me all year round.
In the pics car is fully loaded or unloaded, either flat out or heavy braking. Makes it hard for you get a read on the stance.
Only pic I can find right now wit Sailuns all round is this...

>>>5. Not sure what you mean by M+S but my tyres do me all year round.

here rules tell :
15 nov to 15 march full "winter tires"
15 march to 15 nov full "summer tyres"

otherwise are ok 12 months tyres called M+S (mud+snow) that are exatly an half way between winter and summer tyres.
they aren't best in any case but in rules all seasons.

they aren't best choice for track without rain here , because more grip gived form "full summer" tyres.
(However i'm sure you've good performance because your m+s are really next to summer and far from winter tyres and i like so much !i didn't change during seasonal changes)

Unfortunately for you question aren't ended......

1 inflate pressure during track or daily use are changed ? what are?
2 use full speed for this track ? what is your maximum speed and average speed ?
and So during track water temperature and brakes remain ok ? how many miles you made during track before a pit stop?

Sorry you're Greater interesting case for me !

M&S = mud and snow. Nowadays more of a sales thing. Unlike older times when winter tires were quite :"knobby". Way back a pretty good racer used Firestone winter tires on his dirt track roadster.

The B. F. Goodrich T rated 215 70 15 on 7" XJS sourced lattice wheels look great, ride great and handle very decently. No track use.. That would be fun, but those days are gone.... PR? Read a bit back. Herschell Griffin (sp) borrowed a NASCAR racer and raced!!! Legendary driver. At 100!!!!

My jeep got treated the modern version of the tires it was born with Wranglers. Quite knobby!!! But, OK around here and the freeway. I like it better than with the "touring" tires it had.

Just suit the tire to the budget and how it will be used..

Jaguar runs again. A story for another place at another time.. Errands beckon...

I always found this site really helpful when determining tire size and its implications:

thank'you all.

i apreciate your help....

i'm thinking 215/65/15 with original wheels and not starter 205/70/15 for some reasons:

This size open offer on 2019 tyres performances at half price .

Founded premium and lower brand tyres with "H" full summer tyres. (far from 4*4/van crossclimate tyres)

next days i will try one of these premium to evaluate "curve/belly" .

it's an hard choice without experiences.......

Ahh, winter tyres. All news to me. Our winter is like most peoples summer.
1. 38 PSI on road and track seems to work well.
2. About 160 km/h on the straight, average is probably closer to 110 km/h. Water temp and oil presure are solid and same as on the road.
We do about 36km per 20 minute session, 15 laps at 2.4 km each. Brakes do fade a bit late in the session sometimes, but not enough to be a concern.
Only once have we had to look at the car between sessions but it was after the first time out and we bled the brakes. Made no difference and we have never looked under the bonnet since at outings.
