Default xj6 series 2 - fuel pump

I have recently purchased a 1978 XJ6 series 2 and the main issue with it is the fuel pump/dirty fuel tank. I have removed the tank and cleaned the tank but the previous owner must of put an submersible fuel pump in the tank and not in the original spot behind the spare wheel. I'm wanting to put the fuel pump back in the original spot, I was wanting know if anyone has a diagram on how to connect it all up again?

Any help is appreciated cheers.

If it is an S2 with carby's I assume it would be the same set as an S1.

Firstly, welcome to teh Forums.

When time permoits please do an Intro in teh New Members Area.

Both my S2 6 cyl cars had submersible pumps as made. They were a 1976 and 1977 XJ6. Wifes 1976 Daimler 4.2, also had the submersed pumps.

Goss make them, and they are the same as the VK Commdore EFI, which used that particular pump as the "lift" pump for the EFI Hi-pressure pump. However those Commodores are RARE anywhere down here.

To revert to the earlier system would be a major plumbing exercise I reckon, and I have never really looked at it, just thinking about the 2 systems out loud.

I have that pump part number written somewhere, and will find it, as Goss no longer list that lift pump in their current catalogue.

I will add you to the Sth Australia roll call in a few minutes.

Found it in A VERY old Parts book in the shed.

GE015 is the pump in question.

From memory (hahaha) there is a tweek of the mount bracket to get the angle of the dangle just right, but honestly, that bit is real fuzzy now.

Hope that helps a tad.

Thank you guys for your help, here is a photo of the current fuel pump looks very similar to that GE015 Goss electric fuel pump.

I might just replace the fuel pump with that goss pump, but I'm current sourcing to get the inside of the fuel tank coated ( Red-Kote -fuel tank line) to prevent rust happening again in the tank.

I will post shortly on the new forum to say hello, thanks again.

That brings back memories, oh boy.

If the inside is only surface rust, simply clean it and let it be, as these coatings can peel off and reek more havoc. I have never lined any tank in all my years, and only replaced the XJS tank coz it was free and under a recall.

The Sth Aus fuel is not known to cause rust, but if the car is left for years without running etc, yes, it can happen. Ethanol fuel is not the norm here, as you know, and we dont generally use it in these cars.

I will check the avail and price of that pump at work tomorrow, if I remember.
