Default XJ6 Series 1 Fuel Tanks into a Series 3?

Hello there,

I recently removed the LPG system from my series 3 VDP, however I am now left with only the right hand fuel tank as the left hand one had been removed to facilitate the LPG tank fittings.

I have found a pair of Series 1 tanks in almost perfect condition for a bargain price, but was wondering if they will directly retrofit in the Series 3?

Is there a way of modifying the system so that the tanks can be joined and thus negating the need for the return fuel valve on the left hand tank?

In essence, I just want the extra fuel capacity that the extra tank would offer, but without having to switch from tank to tank and worrying about re-instating the valves etc that were removed when the LPG system was fitted.

Sounds daft, but I'm trying to do this on the cheap as there are more pressing and expensive issues with the car to be sorted before I return the fuel tank system to factory original.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Will fit but fuel filler necks are different so you will need a series 1 filler which is taller than the series 3. If you want the extra capacity simply use a 1/2 Tee fitting to bridge the tanks and to act as a supply. Enough fuel will transit the 1/2 tee and 1/2 hose to equalize the tanks over a reasonably brief time.
