Default XJ6 trunk-wiper fluid resevoir dash lights

Wiper fluid resevoir dash light has been on since owning the car, stays on even when fluid resevoir is full. Recently found that the fluid isnt making it to the nozzles at the windshield, resevoir is full. Will the dash warning light come on if the motor is bad? or is this a level check sensor only?

Also, trunk open dash warning light constantly stays on. I know for a fact the trunk is shut securely. Oviously, the alarm system will no longer engage due to this. when the trunk is lifted open, the curtesy lights are inoperative also, replaced both bulbs over the weekend, but to no avail.

Anyone have any experience with either of these issues? I havent delve into either of them yet.

I'm no help on this one

One strong possibility is broken wires at the trunk lid hinge. Fairly common.

Hopefully an admin will see this thread and move it to the "X300" section.....as that's what model you have.

Cheers

Default Trunk Dash lights and courtesy lights resolved

The light switch in the trunk was corroded inside and the pluger/sprue protruding from the switch that is actuated via a lever/arm on the trunk locking mechanism could not make contact with the plunger/sprue due to being worn off or broken too short. I'd opened up the switch, because I am me and I have to know why and how- this is how I found the corrosion. cleaned the contacts, superglued and hotglued back together, and other than the broken plunger/sprue, the switch operated as should. Courtesy lights functioned, and dash warning light went off, all electrical functions relative to the trunk locking features functioned and I could again lock the car and arm the security system.

notice the long protruding plunger? mine was worn down to the casing that it protrudes from, just enough exposed that I could operate the switch. upon doing this, I found it would intermittently work. so after verifying connectors were all good, I jumped the 2 wires at the connector and sure enough the lights went on. so I tore apart the switch and reassembled it back together. you will have to break parts to do this, I work in composites, so I am a repair specialist able to come up with viable solutions. this is not an easy repair though, other than buying the switch and replacing it if you can find it. there are currently a couple switches on ebay for sale, used, but operable for around $40. brand new, if you can find them, will go $75.00 plus! within this project also I found the courtesy lights inadequately attached to their mounting rings and the whole assembly merely glued into the trunk/boot lid liner. so I removed the assemblies and cleaned up all the glue, reglued the sockets back into the mounting ring/plate, and then riveted the assy. back into the liner, as there were holes punched into the mounting rings for this already existing. I dont like things bouncing and wiggling around- as I work in the marine industry and am constantly resolving such issues.

I am attempting to upload some pics of the trunk lock assy and its components. I also installed a marine grade toggle switch in line with the repaired actuator switch so I can manually operate the trunk light switch so this doesnt happen again. I like the manual function of this configuration and it wont harm the security system or electrical system. here is a pic of the manual switch and the whole project put back together:

Hope the info is useful. Now on to the washer reservoir warning light.

Daphne is feeling electric!

great jobs! but your car is not a XJ-6 Series 1, 2, or 3, it is a X-300 aka "Series 5 XJ".

you should post this repair in the X-300 Forum to help others with the same problems.
