Default XJ6C and XJ12C owners out there?

Hey all, I recently bought a 77 coupe from member gkr and almost got it to running condition. Had to get donor fuel tanks and new SU fuel pump done first. Any other owners out there that can share some stories or pictures?

There ain't going to be all that many owners, because Jaguar only made around 5000 of them, and they were terrible rust buckets so not many survive.

Apart from the two door body, all the mechanical parts are identical to the Series 2 XJs

Sorry, don't have a coupe.

I was looking at tsingtao35's pics and say the one where the car was in "push mode" (optional at extra cost), and saw in the left side a red XJ with Starfish wheels. Any more pics of that car? I'd like to replace the HEAVY steelies and wheel covers, but Kents aren't to my liking.

Sorry for hijacking your thread.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Jeff

Hi Tsingtao
That car is in amazing condition for a 77, and a Coupe at that. The fuel tank and 1/4 panel area is amazingly rust free.

What are the sills like underneath the rear side windows, (under where the rear doors would normally be) ? This area was the killer on these cars as it was a very bad rust trap.

Thanks Fraser, the sills in rear are exceptional..I only have rust in very exterior into areas which will be sorted out during the painting next month...the fuel tanks are donors from a series 3 with external pumps put in. I chose to go with full vinyl interior instead of leather for ease of cleaning. The uphosltery guys did a good job replicating the original interior styling...they added half inch of padding which bilked up the interiors so I've lost leg room in the rear. The seats themselves are very cush though...fixing a lot more in near future....shocks, ball joints, ac system, oil pan, differential service.....will also keep the vinyl top when repainting.

The work on the car is becoming a baldness inducer...just found out the oil Pan is leaking and have to pull the front bottom to get to it...will be doing ball joints, shocks, all bushings differential seal service and rear brakes too...after just completing the water pump, master cylinder and all cooling hoses...oh and the ac system needs work too...sigh..

Hi Tsingtao, Me again !!

Did you know that there was a special assembly to hold the engine up whilst you removed the front subframe, (engine normally bolts onto this) ?
I made one up with stuff called Dexion in the early 90s to do some job or other, I forget what !

YOu make it so it slots into the edges of the internal wings where the bonnet sides slot into, and looks like a bridge across the engine compartment. There was an official Jaguar one, but I doubt if these are obtainable any more new or secondhand.

Sorry, no pics, it was too long ago !!

I dig the XJC cars but never cared for the roof cover. Get rid of that if possible.

possible but not probable, its becoming harder and harder to find the coupes that didn't have the vinyl top ripped off during a respray, I will be keeping the black top. Plus, its in great condition, would be a shame to get rid of it.
