Question * Upgrading Brake System *

The front calipers on my XJS need to be replaced. I would like to upgrade the braking performance of the car since the stock brakes fade quite easily. Does anyone know a good front caliper upgrade?
I will also likely go with a better pad and rotor.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

There are a number of grooved and drilled disc options on the market. However, the XJS is not known for being short of caliper efficiency. I'd go for a pair of recon original calipers and spend the extra money on upgraded discs and pads.

Good luck

There are no bolt on upgrades available for the XJS. The rear brakes on the late converts should larger than the fronts and should help stop the car better than most earlier setups. I'd carefully check the rear brakes first.

Four piston, fixed calipers aren't enough!? How fast do you drive? I damn near get rear ended because my car stops faster than just about anything else on the road. I'd try a different rotor and pad combo and check the rear brakes.

Check out the ebc yellow stuff brake pads, they are made of kevlar and they are way cool, I have them on my truck and my jaguar (haven't used them) and they stop really well especially when I'm frantically speeding, late to school in the 3 degree albany New York. Which is a feat in itself.

If you're going to go with high performance pads you're gonna want rotors that can vent the heat, vented slotted or.dimpled or what not.

Stainless flex lines might give you a slightly firmer feel. I did all braided lines when I redid my brakes with copper nickel lines and aluminum Army/navy fittings. All dot approved kevlar stainless lines.

Actually a bolt on kit is available from AP racing, but it is quite expensive... I think you can have them custom make a set with less cost.
In addition, if you can get Aston Martin DB7 Vantage front hubs and its brembo calipers, you can fit them directly on an XJS, but these are also pricy even if they are used ones...

I have EBC "RED" stuff pads on my stock calipers and rotors. I can just about stand it on its nose but I am aware the people behind me can't. My wife's XJ8L has EBC front rotors and "Green" stuff pads all around. The braking is fade free and very low dust. I went with the OEM style EBC rotors. They have a better than OEM internal venting ribs. Unless you are on a road course going from 125 to 20 to 125 again where your rotors are glowing red, you don't need anything more. High performance racing brakes are required to be heated up in order to achieve max stopping power. Normal "spirited" driving will require higher brake pedal effort and not be as effective as good quality street performance pads in your everyday driving.

Problem is with wheels and plus wishbones, tie rods price . This way is too gold.
