Is 150,000 miles too much?

Well, mine has 158,300 on the chassis, but only probably 4,000 miles on this engine. It's the third engine I've had in the car, and had the tranny built once.

I think mine's just getting broken in. I'd say it's on about life number 7 of its 9 lives.

My "91" SJ6 has 220,000miles I think the engine was replaced @ 40,000 due to crash.I had Ohio Jag Tech do about $350 of work on it. She still a daily driver.

Got my '93 with 36K on it and the '90 with 12K on it. Usually don't even look at ones with 50K +

Also depends where they come from. I only shop in S. Califorina and Florida.

I just bought one with 140k miles. The engine runs well and no black smoke. I expect the engine to last 200k miles.

Mileage, shmileage! IMO, the most important thing with any car is having it serviced regularly, driven sufficiently and being well-cared for. My 1990 XJS had just under 29,000 miles when I found it in Arkansas. It was absolutely as showroom new as you can imagine. Because it sat for a while, the seals in the a/c compressor were shot. Fortunately, that was the only issue. Cars with super low mileage may have sat for a long time, which can be a nightmare of replacing brake components, hoses, engine and transmission seals, etc. which dry out, sieze up, etc. over time.

Conversely, my '67 Lincoln has 101,000 miles and it, too, looks almost showroom new. I found it in Sioux Falls and there's not a lick of rust anywhere. It runs and performs great, and with the exception of one repaint, it's totally original (even the black vinyl top!). My former triple-black '73 Thunderbird (that I found in rural Tennessee) had 97,000 miles and was a 9.85 out of 10. If anyone is in Hammerfest, you may see it cruising around during the "warm" months

My point is, don't merely shop by mileage. Super low mileage cars can be as much of a PITA as a higher mileage car. It's all in scrutinizing a particular car, regardless of mileage. Of course, on any car I would highly recommend taking it to a reputable mechanic and having the mechanicals gone over prior to purchase.
