Hello all,

Here in France, I am being confronted with the car I mentioned in the title, a 1986 3.6 litre, manual gearbox.

For the last 10 years, this car, so I was told, has had Idle and acceleration problems.

This morning (had been parked outsife in the rain, for a week or so) It took a while to start, engine fired but kept stalling after a few seconds. It started properly after a minute or two and we took it inside in the garage of a friend of mine.

Engine, cold, "motorboated" for a while but once warm, the idling stabilised.

Once warm, if "brutally" accelerated, the engine just stops. This was standing in the garage. Taken for a short trip with warm engine, as soon as one needs a good acceleration and floors the pedal, the engine just dies. This is very dangerous on the road, as one may have to accelerate a bit harder than normal, like when orvertaking or so. Also, when driving a longer while, like any distance, up to 150 KM, the engine will also stall, but unexpectedly, of will not stall at all while driving.

We have to solve this problem by ourselves, since all Jaguar dealers we ever contacted, here in the southwest, are completely useless.

We did change (for a new one) the TPS that was full of oil and goo, but no result. So, we think the problem must be found elsewhere, that is clear. Has anyone some experience with that type of engine ? Can anyone help ? Is there a workshop manual I can purchase or download ? Is there some electronic equipment that can be used to diagnose ?

Although not as severe my car (85 XJS 3.6) also has problems accelerating. It never dies though.
