Default 1988 H&E convertible seat belt receivers?

The female receivers for the seat/shoulder belts don't work well.

They tend to release by them selves at times and are unsafe as well as being very sun faded.

Does anybody have source for replacements?

I see generic seat belt sets but they have long 30 cm stalks on the receiver, where as the XJS stalk is about 15 CM or so long, near as I can tell.

I see short ones from China, but I am not sure I trust those.

Thanks,
Doug

The above looks like they may work.

The fixed, outside end would have to be either resewn with a loop to fit the convertible mounting bar, or, just mount the attached tab to the rear mounting bar bolt.

Bolting in a new set of seatbelts is pretty straightforward. The only potential issue is that the main body of the seat belt, where it is reeled up/into, has to be in an extremely specific angle to allow it to easily unreel/unroll without locking up. I discovered this when I put a set of regular seat belts into an '89 XJS I restored that had the auto belts. It wasn't hard to find the angle, you just had to be subtle in the installation.

If you're only using the receiver then I don't think there is any problem. And any alterations place could sew it for you.

After I completed the restoration on my 1988 H&E, I reinstalled the OEM seatbelts, but at it full extension with the seats all the way back the belts are too short. When connected to the receiver, there is no give so I am pinned to the seat. I have to revisit the seat belt installation but as far as I know the OEM belts can only be mounted one way. The reel is bolted to the body and the loop geos through the bar then upwards. One end is anchored at the top of the upholstery. The belt seems to be about 6-8 inches too short. In the interrim, I purchased a pair of seatbelt extenders. One end clips into the receiver and the other end has the receiver for the seat belt. It works but I am not comfortable with it.
Doug: I believe the belt is missing something since it is only a shoulder belt. Shouldn't there be a lap belt piece also. Could you post a pic of your seatbelt setup? When I bought this car the belts were not installed. I found them in the trunk so it's either I installed them incorrectly hence not enough length and the lap belt portion is missing or something else.
Later today I will take a pic to show how I installed it. I will have to take the whole panel apart to get the pics I need.

RESET:
I took a look at the way I installed the seat belt and I realized that it is installed totally wrong or rather routed incorrectly.
I inadvertently routed the lap portion of the belt and the shoulder portion of the belt through the hole where only the shoulder portion of the belt is supposed to go.
I am going to remove the panel today to reroute the belt correctly.
Doug could you take a pic of how the lap portion of the belt is routed through the anchor bar bolted to the floor of the car. I would appreciate it very much.

I don't have a pic, but with nobody in the car,

The belt (loop end) is connected to the cross bar down low.

The belt then goes vertically straight up the edge of the divider to the swivel gizmo, then down into the area behind the divider into the belt retractor. The male buckle follows the belt up and is near the swivel gizmo.

Pull the male buckle and belt across you and connect it to the female latch, you now have a lap/shoulder belt just like every other car. Go look at your Toyota or Ford or whatever daily driver, those belts are routed all the same as the Jag, they just don't have cross bars at the bottom.

Thanks. Problem resolved>
I had the belt routed incorrectly.
I rerouted it and all is well.
Doug, I have two extra belt receivers that bolt to the floor in between the seat and the transmission tunnel. They are in good condition. It is yours for the cost of shipping.
I will post a picture of them later on today. I have to dig them out. If you are interested, PM me.
