Default 1988 jaguar xjs v12 running hot (SOLVED)

Thanks to Bernard Emblems web site he explains simple procedure to bleed coolant system. Repeated steps 4 times and and after running up and down interstate I-95 can not get her to run hot........finally after two years of only driving short distances (to store and back ) i can now enjoy my Jag.......... ....step 1 remove bleed screw top left on rad......step 2 remove cap filler tank only. step 3 fill over flow tank to full. Put cap back on and replace bleed screw. 4 run engine 3 minutes. 5 remove bleed screw and repeat......all air escapes each time the screw is removed..........cheers Quin

What were you doing before? The bleed screw really gets the rest out. Then again, I've refilled my dozens of times from a slow leak at the hat seals and never had it overheat from air. Glad you can really drive it now!

Also, I have to say, be wary of him a little bit. Not to be mean, some of his work is really helpful, even if it is just letting you see the problem or something taken apart, but some of his work is pretty hokey. If you want to replace some of your hoses with soldered copper piping though, hack away!

Will definitely need this information when I start buttoning things back together in a few weeks!

To Grant’s note about the expected voltage at the battery. Mine never produced 14V at the battery, even with fresh battery. I typically get 13.5 - 13.7V

it works fine for me. Just wanted to provide an extra data point...

@v1rok I think you got caught up in that stupid "related threads" thing the forum software does and posted in the wrong thread. As usual, the thread isn't related at all!
