Default 1989 XJS V12 Marelli distributor firing order

Every web search I do says that a V12 firing order is
1A,6B,5A,2B,3A,4B,6A,1B,2A,5B,4A,3B

My distributor cap (I think it is a Marelli...from web pictures) is labeled as
1A,1B,5A,5B,3A,3B,6A,6B,2A,2B,4A,4B

If I wire it to the distributor cap numbers, the left exhaust sputters and it has the power equivilant to a minivan.
If I wire it as all the web sources say it runs really smooth at the tail pipes but has the power of a moped.

Anyone know the correct firing order?

The firing order is correct, but the order on the distributor cap IS NOT the order of firing. The Marelli ignition uses a two tiered rotor, high and low; and they fire on opposite sides of the cap to boot. As long as the distributor is indexed correctly, you can follow the cap designations and hook up the plug wires accordingly. Then you should be good to go.

Good luck!

yep, firing order is correct. Most caps have the firing order stamped on top of the cap, just follow the yellow brick road. Right bank, passenger side U.S., is bank A. Left bank, drivers side is bank B. Right front is 1A then down that bank, 2A,3A etc. Same on left side but 1B,2B,3B, etc.

As it's been 5 years since this thread was active . . . perhaps the answer to your question is . . . if it wasn't sorted then, he has not gone far in an awful long time!!!

Cheers,

Ken
