Default 1990 XJS 12 Conv Right Passenger Window Rocker?

Hi all,

My right passenger window switch stopped working today. It hasn't been level in the casing since I bought the car, so I thought I'd have to deal with it eventually.

Am I right in thinking that I can just (gently) prise off the bevel and pull the rocker/switch out to work on it, or do I need to remove the whole center panel?

I am not a natural with electrics, but very happy to wade through any guides anyone could point me to. I think it will just be a question of placing it properly in the socket.

I am pretty sure the electrics are in good shape, as the window was working when the switch was in place. Any thoughts welcome,

Cheers,

Matt

Been there done that..... Yes, you can remove the switch very carefully with a knife blade or a small flat head screw driver, gently working the switch up and out front both sides. Worse case is breaking the bezel which are easily replaced on ebay or may even be reusable with super glue. Before junking the switch, spray with some rubbing alcohol and retry... Sometimes the spades on the switch get dirty... you can also scrape the spades with a knife or razor blade. Taking the center panel out is not necessary. You should also be able to pull out the wires and check them. If you have a converter from your electric voltage to 12volts, you can also test the wiring and motor.
good luck,
ken

Yes, they just pry out. They can be in there pretty good though... and you never know what the person before you did. Many of mine were glued in.

Was it the switch or the window not level in the casing?

Matt,
The window switch has metal clips on front and rear that snap it in place. It is very easy to take the switch apart and clean the insides. It should work as good as new after that.
