Default 1990 xjs radio codes

Randy Hutson here, proud new owner of a 1990 Jag. XJS V-12 Convertible.
I purchased a 1990 xjs convertible V-12 and the radio is asking for a code. I know that to get a code from Jaguar you have to remove the radio and get the serial no. from the top of the radio. I have heard that there is a way to bypass this. Does anyone have any information on this.

I got a new (used) radio for my 1991 XJS. Had the serial number of the radio and the VIN number of the donor car (tricky to get at Flea markets) and my local Jaguar dealer got me the code, no charge.

I was hoping to avoid pulling the radio out of the car. I saw a post on another forum that gave a sequence of buttons to push simultaneously to allow you to put in another code but it was for a 1991 and my radio does not have the same button configuration.

I'd like to try this on my 1989, my nearest Jag dealer is a hundred miles away. Let me know if you get anymore info on this.

Nobody listens to me, but, the universal code is 44532. It works on my radio. AS a matter of fact, it works so well, the radio is almost on as I am reaching for the final 2.

Okay, I turn the ON/VOLUME knob on, the SECURITY light blinks red, the screen on the right side says CODE, I typed the 44532 numbers in and nothing happens....did I do something wrong or is there an ENTER type key or something similar that transmits that code to the radio???

That should do it. When mine says COdE I punch in 44532, and, it goes on every time. I wonder why it says COdE, and, not CODE?

Sorry, it works on mine every time. I didn't have the code. I unhook the battery every day, so it needs the code every time I restart. That's what I use 44532.

Did you get the code cards that come with the car's paperwork? If you enter it wrong 3 times you'll need to leave the radio on for at least an hour without messing with it. Then try again. Once you hear the beep restart the entry of the code.

Search the forum. Someone gave me a universal code recently. While I didnt try it (finally figured out how to enter mine) you should try.

My car was a 'builder', no handbook, etc. I don't hear anything from my radio, no beep or static. Was your universal code 44532?? If not what code did you have?

I tried a dealer near me and they were clueless in trying to help although in their defense a guy said he would research ( since he was unfamiliar with this issue) but came back with nothing?

One thing you might try... I've read that after three tries or so, the radio has to be left "on", with no code entered for an hour or so to "reset". After that, you get three more chances, but before that, it will not accept further entries.

I had the same problem when I bought my XJS. When I pulled my radio, (very easy) the code was written on the radio in felt pen. worked like acharm.
