What are my options if any to replace my stock steering wheel with a wood one or a more modern leather wheel and retain the airbag? I think the stock wheel really dates the car and is not very visually appealing.

 

I'd go with a Nardi as first choice. After that, Motolita. Check our Ebay for them

I have never seen an aftermarket wheel for an airbag XJS, nor have I seen a wood trimmed stock wheel. There was one advertised on eBay recently, perhaps from an overseas market car.

I'm not a trivia buff, but I believe the 1994 XJ6 Vanden Plas steering wheel was wood trimmed, and accepts the same airbag.

 

Ahhhh. Forget about the airbag aspect of it. That complicates matters......
