Default 1992.5 V12 Fuel Injector Problem?

Hi Team,

Well, I just started to dig into this car. I can honestly say that while it ran yesterday, it doesn't today

So here's my problem. When I pulled the injectors out the small green plastic piece from one of them was half missing. See picture. Should I be concerned I have all new injectors so I don't care about the condition of this one, more worried about the engine internals.

yes, you should be concerned if you were going to run this injector

the ' pintel cap ' has broken

this cap determines the way the fuel is sprayed into the manifold ,

without the cap the fuel won't atomise correctly , possibly causing rough running issues

you can buy injector refurb sets online

but its quite a big job to replace all 12

but if you have 12 new ones get them fitted,

you could find the bit in the inlet manifold, or it could have been eaten by the engine and spat out the back

good luck

I agree! As a matter of fact, you could have had that, as well as your other 11 refurbished. I had one of those pintle caps come off when pulling the injectors out of a 6.0 I bought. The car had been sitting quite some while, and 5 of the injectors were completely stopped up. I flushed them, replaced that pintle cap, and got the engine running great. That missing pintle cap must have burned away, as I removed the engine, exhaust, and it is nowhere to be found.

Thanks. I am actually having the 12 originals cleaned and tested and will be selling those when they're done.

The question I have stated differently is: Do I need to take the intake manifold off and search for this little scrap of pintle or am I ok to just leave it there? I think it may be because the edge of the break looks relatively clean.
