1993 4.0 Coupe fluids
I have ordered some books that may help - but what radiator coolant should be used, what transmission fluid should be used, and what rear differential oil should be used? This is a newly aquired 1993 4.0 car, and I have zero history on it. Should I start with changing all the fluids? 96,000 miles. What about the power steering fluid?

Hello, I also have a '93 4.0 convertible, which I've had for some years now. The first thing I would do is get under the car and push up on the rear transmission mount. It is a combination rubber /spring mount and when it fails, it puts enough strain on the transmission that the trans also fails after awhile. If you have a lot of upward play(should have a little) when you push up, have it replaced. The replacement is available for about $200.00 but will save you thousands.
Fluids: Auto Trans= Dexron11 D (castrol/Mercon 9.6 US Quarts
Power Steering = same as above
Differential = A.P.I. GL5 SAE EP90 1.7 US quarts
Coolant = any phosphate free anti freeze 21 US quarts
engine oil = 10.5 quarts including filter
Sorry if I show up as a junior member. My email address was hacked and Jaguarforums has to update me. One more word of advace. Find out when your car was built thru the serial number. My '93 was built in Sept. 1992 and used some parts from earlier vehicles and some from the facelift era. Good luck. Rick

Thanks for the Post Frederick - I was looking for the specs on the Diff oil and this was helpful - I'm also in the process of changing all fluids (as brewtech suggests).
BTW - I also have an early 93 xjs convertible with the inboard brakes & concur with the advice that you need to be careful ordering parts for the 93 XJS since there are some significant changes mid-year. As long as you're armed with your Vin# and read the part catalogue you should be OK.
