1993 XJS 4.0L belt replacement
I am in need of changing the air pump v-belt on my 1993 XJS 4.0L. I haven't torn it down yet but it appears that the air pump belt is too small to be removed with the clutch fan in place. Does it need to be removed or is there a trick to replacing it or "working" it off of the clutch fan?
All help and ideas are appreciated.
Thanks!

You should be able to easily maneuver that belt around and up and over the fan.
It may not look longer enough but it is can be removed over the fan; if t is similar to the alternator/WP belt.
You don't have the electric air pump?

If you are replacing one, replace them all. There are 4 I believe. You can keep the fan on. Have patience, especially when doing the power steering belt. 15mm wrenchs. Ratchet Wrenchs are the ideal tool for this job. You'll need a 15mm stuby for the PS.
I know that I am going to sound a bit dim here, especially as I am on my 4th XJS, but which bit is the air pump and what does it do?
I assume that simple transatlantic wordage changes may be part of the problem (wing/fender, sump/pan, boot/trunk) but I have been scratching my head/**** for ages now wondering what the hell an air pump does (yeah, I know, it pumps air smarty pants) and why would you want one?
