Default 1995 Jaguar XJS ABS Pump Problems?

Hello to all,
I have a 1995 Jaguar XJS 6.0L convertible with brake problems. it started occasionally with the abs and brake light coming on. It has progressed to nothing but a hard pedal and lights always on. What I have found is when the pressure switch on the pump is plugged up it will immediately blow the fuse in the passenger compartment that is (ABS pump). The fuse will not blow with the pressure switch unplugged. I purchased a pressure switch thinking that was the cure, nope same issue. Has anyone experienced anything like this with their abs pump and brakes?
thanks

The occasional warning lighting originally present may have been due to the brake pressure ball having failed to act as a reservoir. These age, and unless it had been changed, is almost certainly dead.
As a result, the pump runs virtually continuously. It may have overheated and melted something. You can check the motor resistance, but it would measure pretty low normally, just 1 ohm or so.

I found a source for new current Delco 25528382 type ABS accumulator as a JLR1905
Replacement.
It via an eBay vendor at $199.00 + 9.95 shipping.
These are newly manufactured units. Not one made 10 - 15 years ago and
Sitting in some supply room since then.
The Delco 25528382 is suppose to be an alternate replacement for the JLR1905
Unit.

The listing says the accumulator must have a 6" clearance.
I find that odd because the accumulator ball on my 1994 XJS 4.0L is about 4-1/2"
Tall and 3-1/4" diameter. I have about a 1-1/2" clearance between the top of my
Accumulator and the cross brace for a 5-1/2" space.

Just go to eBay and look for a Delco ABS accumulator 25528382.

Regards and POR - Press On Regardless!

Replacement accumulator can be worthwhile if refurbishing abs, however the constantly blowing fuse suggesting either short in wiring or burnt out pump motor.

My guess would be motor fault, hopefully for your sake I am wrong as I don't think these are cheap or widely available.

Think I saw combination of pump / motor and pressure switch and accumulator for about £1200 in last six months

Used version for $320

I replaced the abs pump and motor. Still the same issue? From where I have traced it seems that the voltage overload is on the large blue/brown wire that the 4506 ABS relay plugs into. My replacement motor was used and guaranteed to be in working order. I have not bled the system after getting air in the brake lines replacing it, does anyone think that the pump/motor has to be bled into the system to work properly?

Tblevins2,

Yes, you will need to bleed the low pressure side of the system if it has been disturbed. You must do this before trying to bleed the wheel circuits side of the system.

Good luck

If you do swap things out, note that the XJ6 and XJS versions of the pump are different. The accumulator and switch are the same I believe.

I seem to be having a similar issue. The car was fine yesterday. Today when I started her up, the ABS and brake lights didn't go off. The car seemed fine, however. I drove halfway around the block, stopped, and restarted her. Then stepping on the brake pedal was like stepping on a concrete block. Gingerly put her back, and suspect some more big bills are coming my way soon....

If it's blowing the main ABS 30A fuse then the problem is NOT the pressure switch, it will be the ABS pump or wiring.
