I am a new owner of a 1995 XJS 4.0 convertible. I LOVE the car. I purchased a convertible cover to "trim" up the appearance when the top is down. I've seen them in the pictures and I think they look sharp.
I am absolutely dumbfounded regarding how to put the thing on! I see the snaps (even though the snaps on the long side of the cover appear backwards at first glance) and clips, but have no idea where the clips actually clip to.
You might have better luck posting the XJS forum, but on my 94 the cover has sort of U shaped metal pieces that hook onto loops on the top. I think there are 4 of them. Snaps finish it off around the front of the cover.
Thanks for the info! I get where the snaps go, but I can't find where the u-shaped clips go. Do you do the snaps along the back of the seating area first?
There are 4 clips. 2 on the rear, toward the trunk lid; and 2 on the sides. Start at the rear first, attach those clips against the trunk and then work forward, doing the snaps last.
I really like that boot/top cover. I have a 91 conv. with a tan top & black cover. It looks good but I'm looking for a tan cover but now that I saw yours I want the red piping to match my seats. BTY the covers are a real PITA to put on . They will tear up your finger nails.

Be aware that there's a difference between the early 2 seater convertible covers and the later 2+2 seater convertible covers. Make sure you've got the right one, which will be a vinyl or leather one for your 1995 car, not a canvas-type one.
If the clips are fitted correctly and the cover is an original one, it should be really easy to fit. Mine takes 10 seconds to fit, 5 seconds each side - and even quicker to take off! No problems!
Mine is a 94 V12, and they really did these late V12 cars nicely. Colour is cream seats with mulberry stitching and piping, and the hood cover matches. Just about everything on the interior is leather, there is no vinyl. The hood cover is leather as well.
In the UK, the 2-seater covers are a canvas / mohair type. Not sure about US spec? They have a different shape to the 2+2 covers reflecting the lack of rear seats, so may explain your difficulty in fixing, if you have the "wrong" one?
Jagboi64,
In the UK, the 6 litre cars had leather covers and the 4 litre cars had vinyl ones. Again not sure about overseas spec, but would expect it's the same hence your leather cover.
WOW - thanks for all the help. The problem is I had the top replaced upon purchase and prior to delivery (not that I would have known to look for loops). The new top is missing the little loop thingies, so I'm pretty much out of luck.
I believe I got the correct cover for the 2+2 - it's leather and fits perfectly, minus the ability to hook into the loops.
I'm going to evaluate solutions this weekend to see if I can engineer a fix.
The replacement tops (as with the originals) all come with the loops as separate strips of material which have to be folded as loops fitted in with the new hood just above the bottom material fixing bar. I suspect your fitter hadn't seen an XJS hood before and didn't know they were supposed to fit them as loops!
I'm not sure how easy it would be to remove the rear bar and retrofit the strips. It would be worth talking to hood refitters who understand the XJS hood as it may be relatively easy for them to do.
