Default 1995 XJS P0400 Code

My 1995 Jaguar XJS 4.0 started running rough. OBDII pulled error code P0400 exhaust gas recirculation flow. What do I need to look for to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance for your help.

Others will chime in but I think the cure, as often as not, is to simply remove the EGR valve and clean out the gunk residing in the valve itself and the passageway that feeds it

Cheers

Cleaned the EGR and pipes. Still had the code. Replaced the EGR. Code is now gone. Now I have code P1313 misfire catalytic damage. The car has an obvious misfire at all rpms.
