1995 XJS Stalls When Slotted Into Reverse?

Hi Jack,
I need a little more info on your problem. When you say stalling do you mean engine actually stops running and shuts off? Is it only stalling when put in reverse cold but not drive or is it always put into reverse first thing to say back out of the garage or space? Does it make a difference if you let the car fully warm up before you first put it in gear? Does engine seem to idle rough cold or labor before warming up even before putting in gear?
Just trying to figure if you are having a issue with say TPS or if for some reason the transmission has something going on that is causing your problem. I suspect it is an issue with your TPS or something related to lifting up the idle speed when engine is cold but with more information we will be able to steer you in the right direction.

I have the same problem. It only happens when the engine is cold. Cold idling fine but as soon as I put in reverse, the rpm drops and engine stalls. After the engine warms up, reverse works fine.
I did some online research. Some people point to the ICV (idle air control valve) and some say it's the transmission or wrong transmission fluid.
