Default 1st LHd pre-production XJS for sale just around my corner

This might inerest some of us
LHD XJS pre-production on Dutch auction site
(un) fortunately i don;t have the room to store and the time to restore.

Question: I knew there were some XJS versions with cold air intake though-the-panel-over-the-radiator. Was this a pre-production series thing as well?

Theoretically there were no production versions (apart from when Jaguar moved to that system on the very last cars). But....I heard that the original roadtest cars had adaptors to feed the engine with colder air from above the rad to improve the performance. Then after the journos had driven the cars, the adaptors were discreetly removed before the bonnets were lifted for the engine compartments to be viewed by the journos!

Here's a photo of the cold-air adapters fitted to increase the performance of the original roadtest cars.

Considering the state it is in, the engine bay looks rather tidy.....ahah, it has carbs, that's why!

Gee.

Gee,

That's the original fuel injection setup as fitted to the pre-HE XJS. Slightly less obtrusive perhaps than the U-rail on the HE but still quite a cluttered top to the engine imo..

I live and learn, cheers Paul.

New to this.

Gee.

Ps, it looks like carb heads showing, in my defence M'lord.
