This tire will fit the the original rim width, adds an inch of width over the stock 215 70R 15s, and is slightly smaller in diameter. Very small gearing reduction approx. 3mph off at 90mph iirc.
I'm curious if anyone is running this size tire? Got pictures?
Should be easy to find pics as the 235/60x15 was factory fit on XJs V12s for several years.
As a note I'll add that Jaguar mounted these on 6.5' wide wheels....which is really a tad bot too narrow to get the best out of the tire. A 7.0"-8.0" wide wheel would be better.
Thanks Doug! Did not know that! Later models I assume.
Yes, I'm keeping the starfish rims and these are the best option I have currently. Would rather 245 60R 15 but those are rated for 7" minimum rims and I suspect shops will balk at mounting them for me.
235's on a 6.5" rim will have the side walls curved, this makes the side wall less stiff and more prone to roll under the tread, and you probably will not increase the tyre footprint on the road without going wider in the rim.
Selection of 235's out here is a bit limited so l went with 225's on 15 inch speedline on my xjrs.
Chinese tyre but l am quite impressed with them to date.
I actually think I like the bulging sidewall profile. Bit muscle-car. And tends to soften out road flaws. I do like throwing her around curves though. Knowing they were an OEM size helps me feel better about the choice.
Precious few choices really, I did find the 215 50R15 pirellis, but I'm not a fan and I'd like to keep some of my money.
my 1992 came with those
in fact the orgl spare is in the car still... I even used it once last year... mind you to get to the tire store and buy 4 new tires https://tiresize.com/tires/Jaguar/XJS/
Thanks everyone! Darrhel and mkii250 I like that look! I'm supposed to go see a burnt XJS Saturday that just got new tires. If they're the common Made-up-sounding brand stuff I'll go with this size. Who knows maybe he bought her P600s?
Mine are BF Goodrich Radial T/A mounted with the white lettering turned in. Gotta say I wouldn't go to a smaller tire after having 235s--I love the grip. And the car still rides like a Jag, like a sporty, lighter version of the XJ6, which I suppose it is. Sorry for the fuzzy photo.

Those are the shoes I'm contemplating. Look perfect on there.
As an aside I have to say several facelift photos here have made me think twice about my preferences. I don't care for the facelift tail, but those redesigned rear windows are sweet! Hmmm. I know a body guy...
Haha well I like the look of the original like yours! I chose this version of the XJS because it had the manual transmission. It wasn't the colour or anything else about it.
I have a set of 4 Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S 95h 225/55R 16" that are almost unused. Shown on this car. I loved them but lost a lot of points at 2 shows so changed them out for the 15" size with chrome starfish. The spare is the P600 Pirelli. All five have the chrome rings mounted but they could be removed... The five tires cost me $890.00, the rims with the Jag caps were $500.00. I'm just "up the road" from you. Let me know if you are interested and make me an offer.
