4 Questions - Just bought used 1996 XJS Convertible
Don't give it up. You will enjoy the ride and you will turn heads where ever you go. Make sure the spark plugs are the correct champions which are very cheap. Do not go with anything different, it will cause misfires and can lead to stalls. The ignition system is designed for the plugs listed in your owner’s manual, if you have one.
I had iridium in mine when purchased caused all kinds of problems. Jag dealer said remove them and go back to stock. It ran much better and no more stalls.

It sounds like a very nice car. Don't be disappointed on the price; XJS values seem to be on the rise and may continue going up. Not that you should buy it as an investment, though.
I'm not mechanically inclined either though I can do simply things thanks to this forum. This forum GREATLY adds to the ease and pleasure of owning a Jaguar. It has helped me more times than I can count. If you keep the car, and I hope you do, I would definitely recommend you find an honest mechanic who is familiar with these cars. I wouldn't want to own the car without one.
Although the AJ16 engine is a wonderful and reliable engine, you need to expect to pay money to maintain the car each year. Because it's an older car, things are going to happen. If you expect it to be trouble-free with low maintenance costs, you'll only be disappointed. With realistic expectations, you'll LOVE owning this car. It's one of the best and most beautiful cars ever made and is a joy to own.
