Guys, I know it may be getting old, but I posted about the
6.0 swap on my 89 XJS. The donor car has more miles on it
than I thought. It is showing 122000 miles on the speedo. I
got it to fire off this evening. It has been sitting a very
long time. ( a 1994 XJ12 by the way). Anyway, I crimped off
the return line, put a tee into one of the crossover fuel
lines, and using a garden pump up sprayer, I put fuel
pressure to the line, as I presumed the fuel tank, and
filter was shot. The car started pretty well. No bottom end
bearing noise, no noise of any kind actually. This engine is
extremely clean underneath. Never have I seen a V12 with
absolutely 0 oil leaks. It is literally clean as can be
underneath.

My question is, with a 6.0, what is the general consensus of
using a engine like this as is. Would any of you just do a
compression test, maybe a leakdown test? Or would you tear
it down and rebuild it? My grandfather always said don't fix
it if it isn't broke. This car is at best a weekend warrior,
that I doubt I'll ever put 20K miles on it in the next many
years.

Always do a compression test on an older engine. It tells alot.

120k is not that many miles. Although I only have 90k on my 6.0, it has hardly any oil leaks at all. And they are all the original seals and gaskets. I think ford had them pretty sorted out then.
