'78 XJS Fuel Cutoff Inertia Switch
Am I right in thinking early cars didn't have them? I can't find definitive information either way, other than I'm pretty sure I've not got one!
Thanks
Thanks
I have one in a 1977. My car has been rebuild/updated, but I would be surprised if this was added.
So would I, so that's interesting. Now wondering why I've not got one.
If you really do not have one, then i would fit one ASAP. I do not think any fuel injection cars, regardless of make, were sold with out one. Obviously I could be wrong, but I would be astonished if all XJSs did not have one. In case you were not aware, and apologies if you are, the reason for the cutoff is that in an accident, even if the driver is unable to/forgets to switch off the ignition, the high pressure fuel flow will stop because the inertia switch will cut the fuel pump electrical feed, thus saving or helping to save, the occupants from burning.
Thanks Greg, yes, I'm aware.
The reason I suspect it wasn't on early cars (other than the fact I can't find it!) is that the Haynes BOL suggests it's fitted to later cars.
Given that it won't be staying an XJS for long I'm not overly concerned about it. And yes, what ever engine management system I end up with will have some sort of cut off for that very eventuality. Fear not.

Very easily, did the hole fuel tank, fuel pump rework - went to start her and nothing at the pump. After scratching my head and tracing wires, before I started the work - I purposely hit the inertia switch to isolate and then forgot about it - so it works really well
