86 jaguar xjs iratic idle
my idle lunges from 500 1500 I just got my ignition amplifier replaced then I found the vacuum wasnt hooked up to the ecu after hooking up the vacuum it runs so much better but the idle is too iratic it doesnt matter if its going in gear or sitting in park
You probably have an air leak somewhere. This would increase the idle speed up-up-up until the ECU cuts off fuel at 1500 rpm...at which point the rpm drops back done, the fuel is switched back on, and the cycle repeats
Often its a faulty AAV--Aux Air Valve-- causing this. Remove the left air filter and plug-off the opening in the houisng that leads to the AAV. It's a hold about 1" in diameter. just use a cork or similar. See if anything changes.
Some guys rebuild the AAV, others leave it plugged off, others buy new, others remove it entirely. If you plug it off for any longer than a few minutes make sure to remove the vent hose that does to the distributor.
You can also check/adjust the throttle blades and linkagages. If the throttle are not synchronized some weird things can happen.
And look for any other source of air coming in....vacuum leaks.
Post back if more details are needed
Cheers
