Default 86 XJS V12 Power Steering Pump

My pump leaks like a sieve, and I'm currently driving it without the unit working. It needs replacement and rebuilt pumps are cheap. Question is: How difficult is it to remove and replace myself? Nothing on this car is ever easy!

You're right, it's the one component that's fairly accessible. I can't trace my leak from looking under the hood. The pump comes alive with fluid added. Stop leak slowed it but it still pisses the fluid out. I hope it's not the high pressure line and maybe a split hose. I won't know until it's on a lift. Funny thing is, it drives nice without power steering. Parking in a crowded lot is tough though.

there is an o ring that goes on the intake line which is high presseure. replace that if you didnt put it in. if not its something else. either way its an inferior system to the later HE models

I'm no mechanic, but is this the hose end that attaches to the pump, or steering rack?

Welcome to the forum Anglicomarine0326,

I've moved your question from US Northeast Region to XJS forum. The Region forums are for geographically relevant posts; the Model forums are the appropriate place to post techncial questions.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

I believe it is more likely that you have a hose leak. The heat shielding around the hose tends to direct leak flow either toward the steering rack or the pump. Therefore don't assume it is the pump just because there is fluid dripping from that location.

wish i could help, but when my pump started leaking, i now use a 1997 Dodge Viper V10 pump, changed mounting brackets and hoses to fit!

very light weight, saved around 8lbs, from the cast iron GM /delco pump!
