My '87 does not have this item. I'll be interested to see how it all connects. Possibly I can add it to my car.

The heated washer nozzles were a new feature for the 1988 model year cars, so your '87 wouldn't have 'em. Don't forget to grab the nozzles themselves from the 1988 car if you want to retrofit the system to your 1987.

Thanks, will do. Looks like it would just be a matter of swapping out the metal grilles. Appears that power comes thru the main circuit into the motor and then the electrical connectors come off that to the nozzles.

Looks like the toughest thing will be tracing the wires back to the power source or fuse relay. I will make this upgrade to my car.

Need to get the little posts that the wiper grille attaches to off the parts car as well. Mine are broken. Lots of Liquid wrench applied.

Any insights as to why the '88 car did not have a ground wire on the back of the instrument cluster but the '87 does? Can't see any differences between the two. An extra ground certainly can't hurt anything. .

Just pulled the quad headlights bracket for a guy. Interesting that behind the brackets is a heavy lead/concrete weight on each side. (there was also some kind of animal bone in there that looks like it was a meal of a creature that made a home back there a long time ago).
Is this on all convertibles? The weights, not the animal bone.

Next up is the front bumper and radiator.

I think it is only H&E and it is due to front vibrations.

Lots of rain yesterday followed by jungles of panama like humidity. Todays project will be trying to remove the back bumper and the convertible pump. Maybe the radiator too. Drilled an access hole in the drivers door from the inside to access the door handle frwd retaining nut.

I have a feeling that the bumpers are going to be harder than the diagram says.

Rusty nuts and bolts can be a real problem with the bumpers. The chrome "bumper blades" in particular. Be careful !

Take a peek at the situation first. If the bolts are rusty, soak 'em for a couple days in whatever rust-buster product you like best

Back bumper came off pretty easy. I'll do the front another day. All I want is the chrome 'blades' and rubber trim.

Seats are out. Have decided against adding heated seats to mine.

I took the seats out today and retrieved the little rectangular nut you mentioned. PM me your address and I'll send it to you. Anything else you are interested in?

Found another distinction between the '88 and earlier cars. My '87 has a rod on the side of the radiator to enable quick drain. Nothing like that seen on the '88.

Getting down the bare bones here. A couple of questions though as I move to the last phases.

Is the H&E convertible top compatible with the factory models that came out in '89? I am assuming it is a bear to take the top off.

Engine mounts removal. What it the best way? The car will be on jack stands in the driveway.

What specifically do I have to remove to free up the transmission. I plan to pull the motor and trans out together from the front.

Front bumper, radiator, oil cooler will all be removed to make it easier. They are all prep'd to be taken off very soon.

MAINTENANCE NOTE: If you haven't cleaned out your radiator between the A/C condenser in awhile I highly recommend it. This is just a parts car but it was chocked full of debris which would dramatically reduce air flow across the radiator. It's a pain in the butt job and you'll likely need to take the hood/bonnet off to ease of access but the alternative is not good.

H&E top is H&E own top construction.
UK XJS have UK top, there is another car profile from the side (for me H&E is cleaner, maybe I won't be stoned).

Disassembly continues. I have 4 of the motor mount bolts out now. Also the vacuum canister (not sure what it does) beneath the wiper fluid reservoir. Waiting on a friends availability to help with the front bumper. Not sure what is still holding the front fenders on. Once they are off the doors should be easy. Delanaire III is the next big item to remove. After that she'll go up on jack stands and blocks to disconnect the drive shaft and transmission.

Took a little hiatus on disassembly but got back at it after work this evening. Front bumper blade off. Right fender almost off. need to build a long extension to reach down to two bolts on the inside behind the front wheel. Left fender will follow soon after. Once fenders are off the doors should be pretty easy.
If weather cooperates I'll try to tackle the Delanaire 3 this weekend too.
Hopefully I'll be ready to pull the motor in less than two weeks, certainly by the end of the month. Radiator, oil cooler are ready to come out. I have four of six engine mount bolts removed from the front cradle.

I also got the rear storage area scuttling out providing access to the convertible top assembly and the back 1/4 power windows. I am hoping the windows come out easily.

Before I send the carcus to the boneyard I'll probably take the gas take out as well. If it is in good shape it will be for sale as well but will require pickup. No shipping.
