89 xjs hard start

Unhappy 89 xjs hard start

Hello my 1989 xjs is very ,very hard to start after it sits for a few weeks,doesn,t seem to want to fire. Then all at once it just starts no problem and I see a little black smoke at the exhaust .once it is running it runs great.It took me over half hour too get it started this morning.Any help would be appreciated,thanks

Sounds like what my XJ6 is doing. Got good fuel pressure, ie can you test it, maybe the cold start injector is not working, or fuel pressure regulator, or weak fuel pump?

I'm pretty sure the cold start injectors went away in 86, 87? The 89 is much more tempremental about the tempreture sensor. If you have a digital ohm meter, it is very easy to check. If for some reaon, its giving a false signal of the enine being much cooler than it really is, the car will get far too much fuel. You also need to check the hoses on the regulators, as I have heard of the diaphram going bad, and acyually sucking fuel into the engine through the vacuum line, giving the car a over rich condition. Why do we put up with these cars again?
