Default Got there!

So, the beast has returned!
After poor old David had to drag it back for a 400 mile round trip due to a gearbox fault he brought it back with a replacement box.
The car is now looking a treat and driving like a proper beastie.
The horrible steering wheel wobble has now gone thanks to the fitment of new front brake discs and pads; it now stops as well as it goes.
Refurbished Speedline alloys and a bit of tyre (tire) gel (new tyres on the front) finish it off nicely.
Still a few jobs to do of course (it is an XJS afterall!); the headlining needs fixing again, need to sort out the brake warning light flashing once when the pedal is pressed, clean up the rear seat and centre consol and bling up the engine bay.
I've also got a set of huge quad tail pipes to fit and a pair of TWR air intakes to make it sound and breathe better.
In the mean time I shall just drive it around a lot.

I'm Very pleased for you, Steve!
But ya see, it's like this; I was tripping for a long weekend and by the time I logged in your post was no longer in BOLD TYPE on the index so I didn't notice.

Now that I'm finished with excuses I will repeat that I'm *VERY* pleased for you. I do remember the last time you got it back and the Massive disappointment you felt when it didn't work correctly. I'm glad that's all sorted out.

Congratulations and all that stuff.

It looks great, Steve.
I'm curious about those exhaust tips and TWR intakes that you mentioned, and would love to see pix of them.

Thanks for all the support, it's nice to know you are never alone in the dark, searching stubbornly for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Haven't got any pics of the exhausts with me at the moment and I'm away till next week (cursed work interfering again) but I'll post them then.
I think that the intakes are TWR ones as they have twin, short pipes instead of the single long one usually seen. I can't think of anyone else that may have produced them?

Jagzilla, here are the photos.
The exhaust tips look a bit ambitious as I have to remove the fog lights and Dremmel attack the rear skirt but the intakes look quite racy (and not home made).

Well done Steve!

Did you cancel your order for that 'Japanese Car' you were talking about when 'Mission Creep' set in?

Thanks Steve. I've never seen air box covers like that before. Hopefully, somone here can shed some light on their origins.
Your exhaust tips are shaped somewhat like my resonators, and can be used without applying the business end of powertools to Coventry sheet metal. Simply determine how far the exhaust needs to be extended in order for the tips to have clearance in the opening. Weld, or clamp a piece of exhaust pipe matching that length onto the end of your stock rear mufflers, and attach the tips to the additional length. Auto parts stores usually have short pieces of exhaust pipe with an inside diameter on one end which matches the outside diameter of the opposite end.

I'll try to remember to shoot a few pix of my resonators tomorrow, when I have the light to do so. That should at least give you an idea of how far your tips might stick out, so you can judge whether or not you like the look. It reminds me of the 60's Ferrari GT cars, and I rather like the look. Other people may, or, may not like it.

I gave up looking for the original type as I got outbid everytime that they appeared on ebay.
I had thought of extending the pipes but then the ends would stick out too far and then I would get sued by some mad old bat who had burned her tights on the hot bits; I want them just flush which does involve a bit of work - can't figure out yet how to get the fog lights off without brutalising them.

Here are pix of the resonators on JagZilla. I forgot that your bumpers dont protude as absurdly as do US spec bumpers, so this may not work for you.

They look neat and really suit the car.
The original tail pipes have always looked a bit weedy to me so I want something a bit more 'special' for people to look at when they are watching me disappear into the distance.
Mine has the body kit on so is a bit more challenging as the new pipes will completely fill the space where the originals (rather apologetically to me) exit.
I'll remove the fog lamps and fit smaller LED ones.
Does anyone on here recognize what model the air filter covers came off?

One photograph is worth a thousand words. I see exactly what you mean now.
