Default 89XJS Starter Not Engaging Question

My recently acquired 89XJS has a sudden issue. When the ignition key is turned the started will only engage if the brake pedal is firmly pushed to the floor. Looking for advise on the situation. I am concerned I either have a problem or will soon. Thanks in advance. Andy

Not really much of a connection there. Maybe a safety setting for your country? Mine would start without pressing a pedal. There again, it would also start in D.

Only remote connection l can imagine is the proximity of the brake master cylinder to the starter relay and relay to solonoid wire.
Is everything in that arear buttoned down tightly?

Is this a new development, out of the clear blue?

Cheers

Being an ABS model, I wonder if that still applies?
