Cylindrical can for Saginaw PAS pump?
Hey guys,
Sp, I need a new housing for my Saginaw pump. These were made by GM, as we know, but GM uses a different NONcompatible case/can with the return pipe sitting in the lower left corner as opposed to the Jaguar setupmwith it in the middle.
Has anyone seen ONLY the case for sale somewhere? I can get hold of the can for a Chevy, a mere USD30 will buy a properly serviced and overhauled unit, but I can't find a new case...
Ideas?
Cheers
Damien
PS: new because mine has been overhauled and refurbished but has so many dents and scuffs now, that it isn't worth doing it again...

GM used *many* variations/configurations of the Saginaw pump and reservoir. I would be a little surprised if ours are truly "Jaguar only". And don't forget that other manufacturers used Saginaw pumps as well so broadening your search might reveal something?
Here's one from a 1969 Plymouth with a center return.

That said, I wonder if location of the return is all that important?
One possible complication of mix-n-match might be the fitting for the pressure hose. I think some were flared fittings and other were o-ring type.
Cheers and good luck

Dpug, there are in theory two Saginaws:
1. the cylindrical body
2. the squared body (your picture)
The 1. is also available in metric and imperial sizes. The Jaguar one is metric. Everything else IN the pump is the same. The only difference is where the pipe comes out. The Saginaws in the V12 have a pipe which is in a 90° angle to the body and remains straight. The GM ones seem to either be fitted in different corners or are bent/curved.

Just in case it helps anyone, and further to Jagboi's points, the pump is used just about all over on UIS cars. I have just helped a mate fit a new PS pump. Got it from Rockauto.com for a very reasonable 90 USD, and they had some even cheaper. The reservoir of this particular one was the more triangular shape, which goes in fine but means the tensioner cannot be fitted to the Jaguar bracket in which the pump is held. Welding a small 1 inch extension onto the Jaguar bracket fixed that very easily, so the tensioner cleared the reservoir. Rockauto will also supply just the pump if you prefer, at about 35 USD, for fitting into the original reservoir.
The low pressure return spigot tube was not pointing quite correctly; but it is just a mid steel pipe. Heating it cherry red and carefully bending it with a rod in the tube fixed that easily.
