'92 5.3L Convertible - Engine Dyiing while at temperature
Well, I hope you guys can give me some guidance as to how to start trouble shooting this problem. Took the girl out for a run, doing about 70 mph in one of the Houston freeways. Outside temp in the low 90's. Everything seemed ok, all of a sudden, check engine light comes on, RPMs to 0, she is dead. Coasted to the feeder road and was able to get in a safe spot. would not intermediately crank. However, waited 10 - 15 minutes and was able to get her cranked again, took some back roads doing 35 - 40 mph, the heater on at full blast (Thinking that if the problem went away as the engine cooled down, then might as well keep it as cool as possible). The needle was barely over the middle mark on the temp indicator.
My questions are:
Has any of you experienced this?
What electronic gremlim could be causing the engine to quit due to temp?
ANy other advice is appreciated.
The car has 125K Miles on it.

Many many things come to mind, then add Marelli and many more crop up.
BUT, the fact you started it and drove it home, albeit with slightly elevated temps in my opinion, leads me to the simple to replace CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor) located in the rear section of the LH thermostat housing. This engine is DEAD if that goes flaky, and that is what it sounds like to me.
AS I said, there are a multitudes of items at play here, but that is my first thoughts.
