Default 95 XJS 4.0 2+2 Convert will not start

The last time we drove the Jag was over a year. I needed to find a cam cover and I did, then had it powder coated and installed it and replaced the plugs. The car has not run since. It will crank over but will not start. I used my sons SnapOn scanner and read a code for the crank sensor. I have replaced the crank sensor, the cam synchronizer sensor. This 4.0 does not have a distributor it has coil packs. I remove ECM and found green on 6 of the cooper pins on the high power p/j, still no luck after cleaning pins and p/j. I took ECM apart to check for smell and eye ball test. No odors and no burn components, this ECM has been in the car since 2002. I have fuel at the rail, not sure how much pressure but it does spew when I break the connection. I have cleaned and tested 30 relays with an DVOM and a 12V power source. Did not find any bad ones but now the head lamps work correctly. The security sys seems ok and all of the fuses that I could find are good. I have run wiring checks from many components back to the ECM, all check good. I have run voltage checks to the injectors and coil packs all check good. Open the fuel cap and it releases pressure. The battery is good. The inertia switch test good. The way I understand how the system works is when your in the crank mode the ECM is looking for info from the crank sensor and the cam sensor so that it will fire the fuel injectors and the plugs at the correct time by sending the signals to ground. Now that the battery has been disconnected and the ECM unplugged the scan tool says NO CODES. I obviously am missing something simply stupid or something that is hidden some where that I have not checked or tested. I know more now than when I started. I feel like I know what is not the problem. I just do not know what is the problem. Thanks, Any help would be greatly appreciated. MCOX

It looks like you have tested many things but I did not see;

1. Is there spark at the plugs when cranking?
2. Can you hear the injectors click when the ignition is turned on? ...and during cranking?

The EGR clicks but the fuel injectors do not click and there is no spark at the plugs. I also removed the # 6 coil pack and held it with a screwdriver stuck in the end to see if it would shock me but it did not.

what is the best scan tool to use? The one I used is a SnapOn Microscan Blue-Point set on Global OBD-2/EOBD. It will not read enhanced codes because the Jag is not programmed in and it will not clear codes. But I cleared the codes by remove battery and unplug p/j's. SnapOn says the 95 needs OBD-1 software but the car has an OBD-2 connector and they said they only go back to 96 but they are not supplying software for the Jag. I think this Jag is a cross-over, the motor does not have a distributor, plug wires and no coil but it does have an OBD-2 connector. The 4 codes I got with the scanner when I first plugged it up were:
1. PO335 Crankshaft Position Sensor
2. P1607 Engine Control Module
3. P1176 Bad Fuel Pump or Filter or Injectors
4. P0420 Catalyst System Efficient Bank 1, Maybe not enough 02 Storage
Maybe I need the ECM checked out some where close by, Cheap !!!!

White95XJS,

Sorry to hear of your problem. Are you saying that the plugs are not wet after cranking ie no fuel being pumped to cylinders? And also no sparks when cranking?

Are you sure that your immobiliser is not stopping something? I assume your remotes are working correctly and you don't have the optional extra immobiliser slot by the key housing?

Paul

As a '95 your car is fully OBD2 compliant.

We bought the car from someone we have known for a long time in 2012. They gave us 3 remotes that had not been used for a while. Since having this problem I have replaced the battery in the 3 remotes. I am guessing they are working, the car locks and it unlocks, if I raise the trunk lid the alarm goes off with the different sounds. I press the only one button on the remotes and it resets. I have tested the inertia switch using ohms and volts it seems to be working correctly. If there is another immobilizer in the system I would like to know where it is, I have looked closer to see if I see this extra option but I do not see it. The steering wheel was changed by previous owner, I notice that with the key out it still wiggles and is not locked in tight like my other cars and trucks. I ask previous owners if they ever had this problem and the answer was no. They said any problems they ever had which were few out of 153,000 miles they let the dealer take care of it. I have not used a dealer for the last 50 years of my life. MCox
