96 XJS Convertible top problem
Hi all, I have a 96 XJS and the top has stopped going up and down. It worked last time I used it a few weeks ago.I had a hydraulic fluid leak so I repaired the shaft seal in the pump. I checked power at the roof switch and it only has 5 volts. I took the switch apart and cleaned it and I think it is working OK. I cant find how much voltage I am supposed to have at the switch as my schematic doesn't show voltages.. Perhaps the switch is bad? The 30 amp fuse is fine in the trunk. The back windows do not go down either.
I have the front windows down / E brake on and in park with the engine running and of course the top latches unlatched.
Any thoughts?
thank you

Did you check the relays? If you had the pump out, is it wired correctly? Connectors seated and grounds good? I'm guessing here that the pump no longer runs when the switch is pressed?
Try cycling it through.
If you are trying to lower the top, and it won't move, try pushing the button that raises it. Sometimes the mechanism hasn't fully cycled through and thats all it needs.
Can't hurt to try that.

So it worked fine up to 1 month ago. I had a new steering rack installed and after I got the car back the top no longer would go down. No pump, no rear quarter windows either. I noticed fluid on the battery, the roof pump was leaking so I pulled it out and changed the armature shaft to pump O ring and reinstalled. Still nothing. I removed the roof switch and clean it and still nothing E brake is engaged, in Park with front windows down and roof unlatched.
There are three wires going to the Roof switch. I have 4.95 volts at the connector to the switch. I would assume there should be 12v there. I will swap out the up relay with the down one to see if it is the relay. Any other thoughts?
thanks
