89 XJS V12 oil type
**edit** oops, supposed to say 89 XJS.
Hello,
The time has come for me to give my newly (re)acquired XJS an oil change. I change oil in all of my cars, but have never done this one before.
My question is a simple one; I called the auto parts store and they gave me a list of about 30 different weights (not really, but too many to just pick one) that I could theoretically run in the Jag.
Just wondering what oil weight you all use here as I would like to ask some people with actual experience! My Jag has just around 100K on it, so I will probably go with a Valvoline high-mileage synthetic blend and a Wix filter.
I also understand that the drain plug takes a 30mm socket from what I've read on the forums, is this correct?
Thanks!

No one has replied, so here goes.
Take a seat, get a LARGE drink, and read on.
I run 15W40 in ALL the V12's, ALL year round, and have done so for a very long time. This summer/winter oil is simply too bloody hard.
The drain plug on all mine is 22mm, so where the 30mm came from, good guess. The 6 cyl (pretend XJ-S) has a 30mm drain plug, so maybe from there.
The V12 holds 10ltrs of oil, so make sure the drain pan is big enough.
The oil filter is easy to remove, NOT, that requires a sense of humour for you poor guys with Cats on these engines, we no got Cats, and the filter is still a laugh a minute, especially the mess running down the arm, oops.
Oil brands, NOT going there. I use what our market sells, and you guys dont get them brands, so whatever gets you or the car "warm and fuzzy" will work. The V12 engine is way more forgiving than most admit, so let it do what it does so well, RUN.

i run yellow bottle in mine, synthetic costs twice as much and just doesn't make up for the leaks this far down the road. Usually I get the heaviest I can, being in florida. Most of the time it has 10w40,15w40,15w50, or something like that. It really isn't that big of a deal. The regular pennzoil has a great additives package for its price, i'd rather pay half of what I do for synthetic and have better detergents. I have been getting 10w40 lately because the discovery seems to like it, and I just go ahead and by 4 jugs, since the Jag and the Land rover both require odd amounts of oil. I do like the 50 weights pressure in the summer though, just a teeny bit higher.
In the cold I use to put 0w-40 in it, usually mobil, and it pulled pressure up nicely. If you want synthetic i'd go with the new penn platinum or mobil 1, but for regular oil penn beats the mobil stuff in additives. Make sure to pre-fill the filter for it!
